Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox release date to be confirmed on December 7
Despite being a relatively niche cRPG adaptation, Baldur's Gate 3 took the internet by storm with glowing reviews and and stellar sales numbers. It is well on its way to winning the prestigious "Game of the year" accolade at The Game Awards this December. Even if it doesn't, gamers can still look forward to at least one positive announcement at the event (apart from the GTA VI trailer, i.e.)
Larian has announced that it will bring Baldur's Gate 3 to Xbox Series S|X consoles in December. Unfortunately, the exact date will be revealed at The Game Awards on December 7. The staggered release sits in line with the Larian's original release cycle. Baldur's Gate 3 first landed on PCs on August 3 2023 after a three-year early access period that started on September 30 2020. It was then launched on the PlayStation 5 on September 6.
There are many theories about why the Baldur's Gate 3 Xbox release was delayed, one of which included an exclusivity deal, which Larian denies. Another one stated that it has trouble porting over the game's split-screen functionality to the underpowered Xbox Series S (US$409 on Amazon). That said, the delayed launch worked out in everybody's favour in the end, as the developers could make the game run with remarkably lower VRAM. The aforementioned optimization will eventually trickle down to other platforms.
