Geekom Mini IT11 review: The Intel NUC competitor with a Core i7-11390H and USB4 is at its limit
The Geekom Mini IT11 is a high-quality mini PC based on the well-known Intel NUC models. Internally, the device features an Intel Core i7-11390H with 4 cores and 8 threads, meaning this device is considerably worse-off than current models. This is no wonder - the SoC was released in 2021 and is still classed as a Tiger Lake series model from Intel. With this SoC, the device's old one, the Intel Core i7-1195G7, can now retire. Alternatively, you can find the Mini IT11 from Geekom with an Intel Core i5-1155G7.
Our test sample of the Mini IT is equipped with 32 GB RAM and a 1-TB SSD. This helps the compact computing beast close the gap to its competitors. But how well does its now slightly outdated SoC compare to its more modern rivals? Price-wise, the Geekom Mini IT11 comes in at $599. This is pretty standard and fits in with the rest of the mini PC market.

The Geekom Mini IT11, i7-11390H in detail
Case - The Intel NUC sends its regards
As is already known, the Geekom Mini IT11 is really similar to its Intel NUC counterpart. All of its dimensions - height, width and depth - are identical. It has nice and small footprint of 11.7 x 11.2 centimetres, which can't be beaten by any of its competitors which we tested. Different to Intel, Geekom only offer their Mini IT11 in the tall version, meaning you can always install a 2.5-inch storage device.
The Geekom Mini IT11 comes in gray and it doesn't have any shiny surfaces. Its build quality is flawless - although its case is just made from plastic. Underneath hides a metal frame which gives the device a great amount of robustness. At the same time, the Geekom Mini IT11 is still quite light, weighing in at 536 grams. Purely from a visual standpoint you really can see quite a lot of similarities to the Geekom Mini IT12, but as the successor to the Mini IT11, this is no big surprise. By the way, the Geekom Mini IT11 can be attached to a monitor using the provided VESA mount - a feature that a lot of mini PCs offer.
Connectivity - Up-to-date even in 2023
In terms of connectivity options, the Geekom Mini IT11 really does have a lot to offer despite its compact size: It features three USB Type-A ports, of which all three provide USB 3.0 speeds, meaning their range of uses is wide. Thankfully, the Mini IT11 also features USB 4. This makes it possible to connect a multitude of external devices in order to almost infinitely expand the compact computing beast's range of uses. You can even connect up to four screens to the Geekom Mini IT11 simultaneously. We also don't want to forget to mention its 2.5G network connection as well as its SD card reader which offers outstanding performance thanks to its UHS II speeds.

Communication
The Geekom Mini IT11 features a Wi-Fi 6 AX201 module from Intel. This makes it clear that it is unable to form network connections within the new 6-GHz frequency band. Its measured sending and receiving rates were still on quite a high level and remained stable all throughout our test. The module also supports Bluetooth connections (5.2), meaning you can easily connect a headset or a mouse wirelessly.
We used the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 as a test router for this test.

Accessories
Its scope of delivery is extensive and features everything you will need to set up and run the PC. Aside from the device itself, the package also includes a 65-watt power supply and a VESA mounting plate. Geekom have also included an HDMI cable and a short instruction manual.
Maintenance
The Geekom Mini IT11 can be opened up super easily. The bottom is secured by four screws and is also used to dissipate heat from the SSD. You can swap out the SSD, RAM and the WLAN module. In total, the Geekom Mini IT11 has space for up to three SSDs. To access the cooling system, you have to take apart the device even further.
Performance - The Core i7-11390H with only 4 cores and 8 threads
Due to the PC being fitted with an Intel Core i7-11390H, we don't expect the Geekom Mini to set any new records. Even so, we still expect the device to perform smoothly in everyday use.
Testing conditions
We ran all of the performance tests using the energy profile "balanced". We didn't change the SoC's performance and left it in its delivered state according to the BIOS settings.
Processor - only 4 cores and 8 threads
The Geekom Mini IT11 is fitted with an Intel Core i7-11390H. The SoC only has four native processing units and can process a total of eight threads at once. Due to its small number of native processing units, its mult-core performance suffers compared to its competitors. Intel's pet project, namely its single-core performance, is able to help the outdated SoC to still achieve relatively good rates. Compared to the Morefine M600, the Geekom Mini IT11 only did a little bit worse. In the performance ratings, there were only 7 percentage points between the two, which shouldn't be too noticeable in everyday use. The slightly newer Geekom Mini IT12 did 12 per cent better than our test sample.
Its short-term power consumption (PL2) is 64 watts, and under continuous load (PL1), the PC can consume 35 watts. However, we noted that the PC wasn't even able to come near its 64-watt limit. Its high temperatures led its power consumption to be reduced prematurely, meaning the installed SoC wasn't able to be used to its full potential.
For further comparisons and benchmarks, take a look at our CPU comparison table.

Geekom Mini IT12 vs. Cinebench R15 Multi Loop
The Cinebench R15 continuous loop gives us a first look at the installed cooler's efficiency in combination with the SoC's power target. We saw that the PC didn't perform any better at the beginning of this test than it did throughout the rest of the test's duration. The telemetry data during the test showed us that its maximum temperature was reached very quickly. We do want to mention one positive aspect: The Intel Core i7-11390H performed consistently and the perviously mentioned high CPU temperatures didn't cause any dips in performance whatsoever.
System performance
During the synthetic benchmarks, the Geekom Mini IT11 didn't have an easy job to compete with its competitors with regards to its system performance. It not reaching its maximum power consumption levels contributed to these results, and our test sample had to settle for coming in somewhere in the middle. During the Crossmarks and the RAM benchmarks, the Geekom Mini IT11 did slightly better compared to its PCMark 10 results. However, we can subjectively say that the Mini IT11 is still fine for everyday use. Its quad-core SoC still proves to be fast enough thanks to its generous RAM and its SSD.

DPC latency
The Geekom IT11 achieved the best latency results compared to all of the comparison devices. The system seems to work excellently in this regard. We noted no issues playing our 4K test video. The dropped frames came from the loading time at the beginning. The iGPU was used to about 40 per cent capacity while playing the video. Prime95 also didn't lead to any increased latencies.

Storage devices
Geekom have equipped the Mini IT11 with a 512-GB NVMe SSD from Lexar. The installed model makes use of the NVMe connection and offers decent transfer rates. It cannot come close to the Miniforum NAB6's outstanding SSD performance, even still, our test device came in on second place. Its transfer rates are definitely fit for everyday use. Under continuous load, the Geekom Mini IT11's SSD cooling wasn't quite enough to avoid the read rates being throttled. At times, we noted a loss in read rates of up to 50 per cent.
The Geekom Mini IT11 can be fitted with two M.2 SSDs. In addition, the device features a 2.5-inch slot, meaning a total of three storage devices can be installed. You just have to keep in mind a maximum build height of 7 millimetres.

Graphics card
Due to its Intel Core i7-11390H, an Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 with 96 EUs acts as the Geekom Mini IT11's integrated graphics card. Purely from a performance standpoint, this model should only really be used for 2D rendering. The AMD Radeon 660M in the Morefine M600 offers a bit more performance. The Geekom Mini IT12's Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 is almost the exact same speed, but due to its newer SoC, it came in ahead of our test sample.
Further comparisons and benchmarks can be found in our GPU comparison table.

Gaming performance
We can't recommend using the iGPU for gaming due to its limited performance levels. The Geekom Mini IT11 only achieved playable frame rates in the lowest resolutions and with low detail settings. If you are looking for a gaming device, then you'd be better off looking for a model with a dedicated graphics card. Here, we see a clear advantage for Minisforum's HX99G and NUCXi7 models. Alternatively, you can purchase the device based on an AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX - other models which feature this are the Geekom AS 6, Morefine M600 and the Ace Magican AM08 Pro.

3D performance via an eGPU dock with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti
As the Geekom Mini IT11 features two USB 4 ports with Thunderbolt, we were also able to take a look at its performance in combination with our Razer Core X and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. In our test, this combination did quite well, although the Mini IT11 was only able to come in ahead of the Ace Magician TK11-A0. The quad-core CPU's limitations really made themselves known during the gaming tests. Even so, we noted a considerable boost in performance over its slow iGPU. You do have to note that the more modern Geekom Mini IT12 achieved 20 per cent better performance levels in the same combination.

Temperature
The Geekom Mini IT11's case heated up noticeably under load, although these temperatures didn't ever reach any critical levels. Its cooling concept is constructed in a way that warm air is led out of the device using the shortest possible route.
We did note quite high processor temperatures. Its thermal limit was hit and the SoC couldn't be used to its full potential. We noted a maximum of 37 watts, and a short burst of up to 64 watts. Its small cooler avoids its full potential from being made use of.
Power consumption
Generally, we can say that the Geekom Mini IT11 is a very frugal device. In idle mode, it only consumed an average of 7.3 to 8.4 watts. Under average load, we noted 28.7 watts and during bursts of load, we noted up to 61.1 watts. The power consumption values we measured accurately reflect the Geekom Mini IT11's general performance levels. The NiPoGi CK10 and the Ace Magician TK11-A0 are more frugal, but they do offer lower total peformance levels.
With a maximum of 65 watts, the supplied power connection is sufficient in size and it shouldn't have any issues providing the device with enough consistent power.

Verdict - A solid device for working with great connectivity
We can now say that the Geekom Mini IT11 is generally quite a well-equipped mini PC when it comes to performance. The reason why this is only a relative statement is because of its installed hardware. The Intel Core i7-11390H only has 4 native cores - and that in 2023! The good single-core performance continuously shown by Intel over the years does still continue to be present in this slightly outdated SoC, as our test sample actually managed to beat some current AMD SoCs. Although, you do have to come to grips with its limitations in multi-core performance compared to its competitors. Even so, the Geekom Mini IT11 managed to show its strengths during our daily use and that an Intel Core i7-11390H definitely is still fast enough at this present moment. The SoC has 32 GB RAM, which is also quite good and you likely won't have to upgrade this immediately.
The Geekom Mini IT11 delivers solid performance within a small case and also features an excellent array of connectivity options.
We have to give its modern connectivity options the praise it deserves. The Geekom Mini IT11 has a plethora of connections and at the same time, it hasn't forgone modern ports such as Thunderbolt. This gives you a great amount of possibilities to widen the PC's range of uses with the help of third party accessories.
If anything, we just have to complain about its design and material choice - the case remains to be made from plastic and this just can't keep up with its competitors' aluminum cladding. Its Minisforum and Morefine rivals have shown what is possible. Price-wise, the Geekom Mini IT11 comes in at around $599. This is neither cheap nor expensive. Its competitors all land within a similar price range.
