The 2023 Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (Gen 8, Intel) with a 16-inch display has been discounted by a whopping US$600 at B&H Photo. As a result, the laptop is currently retailing for US$1,399 instead of the US$1,999 list price. For the price, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i 16 is an excellent deal considering the internals on offer.

For starters, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 features an RTX 4070 dGPU, a 24-core Core i9-13900HX, 32 GB of DDR5-5600 memory, 1 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage, and an 80 Wh battery. Display duties are handled by a 16-inch IPS panel with a QHD+ resolution, a speedy 240 Hz refresh rate, and an advertised 500 nits of brightness. Finally, there is an FHD webcam up top with dual microphones and a privacy shutter.

The Lenovo Legion Pro 5i (2023) is a superb mid-range gaming laptop. We gave the laptop a “Very good” rating of 88% in our review of the Core i7-13700HX and RTX 4060 version. Since the SKU on offer packs a different CPU, GPU, and display, our review holds for all other aspects of the laptop except the ones mentioned.

To give an idea of what kind of performance you can expect from the Legion Pro 5i Gen 8, our Core i9-13900HX benchmarks put the CPU in the upper echelons of mobile processors with only a handful of chips able to outperform Intel’s monster. For instance, the Core i9-13900HX achieves average Cinebench R23 Multi-Core and Single-Core scores of 28,225 and 2,044 with maximum values of 32,623 and 2,105 respectively.

In other words, the Lenovo Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 will chew through even the most demanding of CPU-bound tasks without slowing down.

Finally, on the GPU side, the RTX 4070 mobile on offer is, per our testing, practically on par with the RTX 3080 Ti mobile while the best-performing RTX 4070 laptop GPU in our database lags behind the desktop RTX 4070 (Available on Amazon) by 27% in 3DMark Time Spy Graphics test.

Put simply, the Legion Pro 5i Gen 8 with the RTX 4070 and the Core i9-13900HX is powerful enough for QHD gaming at high refresh rates.
