Premium performance at a premium price: Asus ExpertBook review finds no weaknesses

Fast, lightweight, well-equipped business notebook.
Fast, lightweight, well-equipped business notebook.
Weighing just 1 kg, an OLED display with 5 million pixels and a CPU that exploits its full potential despite its slim design: the outstanding final score of the Asus ExpertBook is hardly surprising. Only one aspect should be viewed critically.

Irritation arises when you think of laptops designed for minimal weight that came before the Asus ExpertBook B9 OLED (2023), which is no comparison to the occasionally fragile-looking devices from LG and Samsung. Asus uses magnesium-lithium alloy, which means the chassis is solid, hardly bendable, has a high-quality feel and is still surprisingly light. This is exactly how a business notebook should be.

At the same time, it provides high computing power. The Intel Core i7-1355U achieves its typical maximum performance and clearly outperforms other similarly sized notebooks with the same processor in our benchmarks. And yet the two fans almost always run quietly. They never get really loud.

Outstanding features

In addition, all important key points are solid. The ExpertBook lasts more than 10 hours in our battery tests when surfing and playing videos. The keyboard and touchpad are precise, firm and comfortable to use. Even the webcam and speakers don't fall short, but impress with their wide range of functions and detailed sound.

On top of this is a whole range of security features, starting with the Kensington lock. There is also the option of authentication via fingerprint, facial recognition or via NFC in the touchpad.

Of course, an OLED display is a must. As expected, it is high-contrast, displays colors precisely and has a resolution of 2880 x 1800, which is almost too high.

So it's no wonder that it's not only the performance, the features and our rating that leaves all rival devices in the dust. The asking price also towers above the prices of competing devices. This is the one aspect that is deserving of criticism, one that potential buyers should carefully consider.

All measurements, benchmarks and impressions can be found in our review of the Asus ExpertBook B9 (2023).
