Even after all these years Apple’s iPad remains the star in the tablet segment. However, the price point of entry has been lowered substantially over the years, among others thanks to the competition introduced by East Asian OEMs. Granted, the best tablets (see our other Top 10 lists) are still priced at $400 or above. However, there are quite a few exciting entry-level tablets perfectly capable of satisfying average users.

Editors' Comments
While our tablet charts mainly feature high-priced devices from Apple and Samsung, the field of entry-level tablets is more diverse. We find exotics from the Far East as well as inexpensive devices from well-known brands. The available sizes are dominated by two types: Around 8-inches and around 10-inches, respectively. Since the tablet market continues to shrink, we will not update this list of best devices on a monthly basis, but on a quarterly basis.
1st – Xiaomi Pad 5
The Xiaomi Pad 5 also offers a 120 Hz fast 2.5K IPS display as well as a fast SoC, good speakers and long battery runtimes. It has a high-quality build and offers HDR10, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos. Like Huawei's MatePad 11, it also supports stylus input, which is available separately. The Snapdragon 860 is a fast high-end SoC from last year and is supported by 6 GB of RAM.
Our 2nd place of the best tablets up to 300 Euros also offers a lot, but there is no LTE version and the storage cannot be expanded.
Unfortunately, there is no IP certification, for example against splashing water. We also miss a jack port and a microSD card reader for memory expansion. LTE is only available in the more expensive Pad 5 Pro, which can also be charged faster.
The Xiaomi Pad 5 (WiFi only) is listed on Amazon US for $449.

2nd – Lenovo Tab P11 Plus
Based on its price the Lenovo Tab P11 Plus offers a great overall package. The aluminum case which it shares with the P11 makes for a high-quality touch and feel, and thanks to its contact pins the device supports an optional keyboard cover.
The Lenovo Tab P11 Plus is a very good tablet for users on a tight budget.
It is compatible with the Lenovo Precision Pen 2, features a good-looking 2K IPS display, and a total of four speakers making this a very good yet still affordable tablet. Long battery life and adequate everyday performance are the icing on the cake.
At the time of writing, the Tab P11 Plus is listed on Amazon for just under $200.

3rd - Lenovo Yoga Tab 11
The Lenovo Yoga Tab 11 is considerably heavier than the competition at 655 g, but it has a mostly practical stand that also makes holding the 11-inch tablet easier. The configuration is typically mid-range: 4 GB of RAM, 128 GB of mass storage, 2K-60 Hz display and an upper mid-range Helio SoC. The build quality is superb, the battery runtimes very long, and the speakers very good.
Lenovo's Yoga Tab 11 is a robust mid-range tablet with unexpected weaknesses in performance, WLAN performance and mediocre brightness.

4th – Oppo Pad Air
The Oppo Pad Air weighs 440g and is 6.9 mm thin. It feels good in the hand and looks good. The ample battery enables a long battery life of almost 14 hours and the 10.36-inch 5:3 display has a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. However, the glossy panel's brightness of 340 cd/m² is not sufficient outdoors.
The Snapdragon 680 SoC with 4 GB of RAM is sufficiently fast, but the one or other app can cause delays during multitasking. The 128 GB UFS 2.2 flash storage is faster than conventional eMMC, though. The speakers are great, but the camera is only suitable for snapshots.
Oppo's new tablet "Pad Air" is built quite stably, offers a fast 5:3 display, good speakers and a long battery life. The brightness is not sufficient for outdoor use.
Oppo devices are not sold in the US.

5th – realme Pad
The realme Pad is an affordable tablet with a low weight housed inside a high-quality all-metal case that remained fairly cool even under load. Its performance is adequate, its Wi-Fi performed as expected for its class, and LTE is optionally available as well.
The realme Pad is an affordable lightweight tablet with a good price-performance ratio and great connectivity.
Long battery life and its four speakers ensure great everyday usability, as does its bright 10.4-inch display with its wide color gamut. At both front and back we find an 8 MP camera that performed well enough for occasional snapshots.
The realme Pad is currently not available in North America.

6th – Lenovo Tab M10 Plus Gen 3
The Lenovo Tab M10 Plus Gen 3 is a full 200 g lighter than its Yoga sibling, but otherwise offers similar specs. However, the display is brighter and pen input is supported. The build quality, speakers, battery runtimes, and waste heat are still on a high level. An LTE version with a nano-SIM slot is optionally available.
Lenovo's Tab M10 Plus Gen 3 has advantages over the Yoga Tab 11, such as the available 3.5 mm jack, the brighter display and fast Wi-Fi.
There are deductions due to the slow SoC, 60 Hz refresh rate and the weak 10 W power supply in the scope of delivery. Furthermore, the 11-inch Lenovo tablet relies on USB 2.0 for the Type-C port. The small storage of 64 GB can at least be upgraded to up to 1 TB with exFAT support via microSD card.
At the time of writing, the Tab M10 Plus Gen 3 in our same configuration on Amazon is listed for just under $200.

7th – Nokia T10
The Nokia T10 is the only 8-inch tablet to make it into our current list. The equipment of the very inexpensive tablet offers the most necessary: 3 GB RAM, 32 GB or 64 GB flash memory, a resolution of 1,280 x 800 and the rather averagely fast UNISOC T606. With a thickness of 9 mm and a weight of 375 g, it is also not quite as thin and light as comparable tablets. At least the memory can be expanded to up to 512 GB via microSD card and you get the increasingly rare 3.5 mm port.
The Nokia T10 has a very long battery life of 16.5 hours and a bright 60 Hz display, but features a not so sturdy case, mediocre cameras, speakers and a below-average WLAN performance.
In addition to its pure flavor of Android, it comes with usable speakers as well as Nokia’s promise of update support for several years. Its camera performs well enough for occasional snapshots and even features an LED flash. If you want to use this tablet for streaming you should keep in mind that it is not Widevine L1 certified, which means it is limited to just 480p when streaming DRM-encrypted videos such as e.g. Netflix contents.
The pure Android 12 should receive updates from Nokia for a long time. The device is available among others through Amazon at a price of just $170.

8th – Nokia T21
The Nokia T20 already made it into our previous top list, which is now replaced by the Nokia T21. The SoC has received a significant performance boost, the case is still made of metal, feels pleasant and is IP52 certified. The 5:3 screen with a resolution of 2000 x 1200 pixels now supports stylus input.
Nokia T21 has very long battery runtimes, IP52 certification and optional LTE, but also a low-contrast display.
Besides a pure Android 12 system, there are also usable speakers and a long update promise from Nokia. The camera is only suitable for occasional snapshots. Those who like to stream with the tablet can be happy that the previously missing Widevine-L1 support has now been integrated. Thus, content from Netflix, for example, can be played in higher resolutions than 480p.
At the time of writing, the device is not yet available in the USA.

9th – Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 2022
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is a slim multimedia tablet that can definitely convince in its core task despite its 169 euro starting price: It scores with a stable casing, Dolby Atmos speakers with solid sound, and good battery runtimes. Furthermore, the UNISOC T618 is speedy with 3 GB of RAM and there is a 3.5 mm audio port.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 is a cheap 10-inch tablet for web surfing and multimedia that is also suitable for gaming.
The charging times are a bit long, the GPS a bit inaccurate and the 8 MP camera weak. There is also not much storage available, but it can be expanded via microSD card. The display is also a bit low in contrast and the USB-C port is only available in version 2.0.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 in our tested LTE version with 32 GB of storage is available for $218 for example from Amazon.

10th – Huawei MatePad T10s
The Huawei MatePad T10s has a solid build, good speakers and hardly any waste heat. Furthermore, a 3.5 mm line port is available and the memory can be expanded via microSD card. The aluminum back is high-quality and the slightly wider display edges make Huawei's inexpensive tablet more grippy.
Huawei's MatePad T10s is very cheap and offers 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. However, you have to do without Google services.
Huawei devices are not available in North America.
